For a cheap date night, grab some take away (or pack a picnic) and take your beloved on a retro date: parking in a Lovers' Lane destination. Here are five of the best locations in Melbourne.

Mt Dandenong

The car park of the SkyHigh restaurant on Mt Dandenong provides 180-degree views of Melbourne's twinkling lights. It's a great place to watch the sunset or catch a storm as it sweeps across the city. There's a $6 entrance fee to get into the car park.

Under the Bolte Bridge

Ok, so the car park directly under the bridge is a little spooky, but park in the better lit places around the nearby oval and you'll enjoy great views of the city lights reflected in the river and the Melbourne Star wheel thing. Even the underneath of the Bolte Bridge is surprisingly architectural.

Wurundjeri Spur Lookout

Located on Yarra Boulevard in Kew, this lookout commands amazing views of the City. Park on the side of the road after sunset and enjoy the city lights or arrive at dusk and stand on the bridge over the freeway to watch the mass of fruit bats head out for the evening before moving up the hill to the lookout. In warmer months bring chairs and sit on the grass.

Bonus tip: The car park on the corner of Wills and Redmond streets in Kew is nearby and also has great views.

Williamstown Strand

Bag a car park near the yacht club on The Strand in Williamstown and enjoy views of the city lights across the bay. It's particularly gorgeous on a Summer night when the setting sun turns the city buildings gold. If it's a warm night you could picnic on the grass by the water.

Half Moon Bay at Black Rock

Drop down the hill along Cerberus Way, off Beach Road, and park in the car park right on the water's edge. On a wild, windy night you may even get waves over the rocks immediately in front of you. On a milder evening, you can stroll along the pier or walk on the beach around Half Moon Bay.
