Looking to get away from the city for a night of romance? Maybe an intimate evening at one of Perth's restaurants? Whether it's a date with a new love interest or a long awaited break from the kids with your better half, Perth has something special to offer. Here are some of my suggestions and I look forward to reading yours (simply type in the box above).

Weekend Escape to York
Take a trip into the picturesque Avon Valley to York and you will be greeted with a warm-hearted country welcome. The historic setting along the main street with family owned hotels, restaurants, cafes and shops is a great place to spend the morning, followed by a peaceful afternoon stroll along the river's edge. The hearty meals served up at the local restaurants are of typical country portions (huge) with a great selection of delicious home-style dishes you don't see in the city. There are plenty of accommodation options available, we enjoyed The Grandhouse bed and breakfast with cottage style bedroom and private spa room looking out onto the farmland. Get up early and take the trip into Northam for a hot air balloon adventure, followed by champagne breakfast before taking the trip back to Perth. A perfect weekend away and you'll come home feeling refreshed.

Romantic Italian Dinner
If you are looking for a romantic dinner with a fun and friendly flavour, Osteria dei Sapori in Nedlands provides a special service with amusing theatrics and a warm family welcome. The traditional Italian menu offers a selection of divine dishes and if you are celebrating a special occasion, be prepared for some song and dance at your expense. On our anniversary one year, we were showered with rice while the whole restaurant sung and congratulated us – fairly embarrassing at the time, but a fond memory for us both. At the end of the night, you will have enjoyed a beautiful meal in a lovely atmosphere and without a large bill to pay.

Cocktails in the Sky
The Sky Lounge, located within C Restaurant in Perth City is a fantastic place to head for a cocktail date. Located 33 floors up and revolving at about 360 degrees an hour, this venue offers stunning views of Perth and the surrounding sights of Kings Park, the Swan River, the suburban light display, and ocean glimpses. As the pianist sets the tone for the evening with some classic melodies, you can sip on your favourite cocktail whilst enjoying a plate of fresh oysters or sweet treats. The Sky Lounge has limited availability on Fridays and Saturdays, so be sure to phone ahead.

Take a Stroll

Romance doesn't have to come at price. A walk along the top of Kings Park overlooking the Swan River and city lights will help you to put your busy life on hold and just take some time to enjoy each other's company. A simple picnic or take-away pizza will do just the trick as you don't need fine dining to appreciate these million dollar views.

Now that you have some ideas, take the time to plan something special for you both and have fun. Please post your favourite romantic spots around Perth as I'm sure there are many gems to be shared.

Also, you can stay at Rottnest for a few nights at their fully self-contained units- so take a break from work and the kids or go over the weekend and take the kids!

Probably down south for the Leuwin Estate Concert, or further south through the Karri Forests to somewhere on the coast. Broome is pretty good for romance, as is Margaret River. :)
