In celebrating the theme of Embrace for 2012, Sydney will be in for a treat. Kylie Minogue is the New Year's Eve creative ambassador for Sydney, and there will be a variety of free and paid entertainment options for all of us to see out 2012. There a a fair few New Year's Eve events that have already sold out, one of which is New Years Eve at Cockatoo Island, as well as Lawn with the View. This article will include a few suggestions on how to spend New Year's Eve, as well as the pre-fireworks activities to help us all party.

1. The Fireworks

2. The New Years Eve Gala

Your chance to party at the Sydney Opera House. Tickets are $249 per person and includes a three course meal cooked by celebrity chef Matt Moran. Tickets to this event also includes access to the midnight party in the northern foyers of the Sydney Opera House. 3. Harbour of Light Parade

A great visual spectacle in the lead up to the main event: the fireworks. Similar to Vivid Sydney, imagination and creativity comes to life. Rope lights come to life too. From what began as the Harbour of Light Marine Lantern in 1999 to bring in the new millennium, this event will light up over 60 vessels/boats along Sydney Harbour. 4. The La Boheme Gala

Held at the Opera House at Bennelong point, Opera Australia brings us La Boheme, a Parisian classic. A cocktail party will also be included, in tandem with a midnight party in the northern foyers of the Sydney Opera House. Further information on this event can be found by clicking here .
5. Midnight at the Oasis

Held at the Garden Oasis at the Royal Botanical Gardens with amazing views of the fireworks while sipping champagne. A three course meal is included with a funky DJ. Your chance to dance the night away too after the 9pm fireworks. Further information can be found by clicking here .

6. Pre-Fireworks Entertainment

6pm to 6:10pm and again from 8pm to 8:10pm - aerial acrobatics. Matt Hall performing over the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
6:50pm - 7:30pm - Ted Noffs Fire Tug. This fire tug will blast an abundance of water into the sky.
7:30pm - 8:10pm - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Smoking Ceremony. White smoke emerges from a selected number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander boats to cleanse the harbour of any perceived negative energy. The idea is to smoke cleanse the past, to bring in a new, fantastic year.
8:30pm - 2am - Pylon Projections. The Sydney Harbour Bridge pylons will project a number of images that showcase the best of the City of Sydney.
8:40pm - 8:45pm - Acknowledgement of Country. Aboriginal entertainment in paying our respects towards Aboriginal culture and heritage.



Bridge Effect will also kick off from 8:45pm, where the theme of this years New Year's Eve celebrations will display on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Furthermore, colour displays will also light Sydney's skies from 10:15pm embracing love, hence the theme of New Year's Eve in 2012. Embrace Love. Embrace Sydney. Embrace The Possibility.
