The city of culture is keeping us pleased and occupied once again. As promised to my great readers, this is the next series of articles following on from the the things that were available to do in Melbourne; our awesome city back in
January. Now for February in seeing out the last month of summer for 2012, and let's make it sensational.
Once again I have done some research on some of the events that will be held in Melbourne this month. These events are once again listed in date order, and once again there is something for everyone. Live life to the full.
1. QV Summer Concert SeriesThis popular hang out spot and shopping centre called
QV; on the corner of Swanston and Lonsdale Streets will be a live entertainment site. Expect to see live music acts every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night throughout February. Bean bags are also available for your enjoyment. The Friday line up kicks off at 5:30pm, while the weekend line ups start from 2pm onwards.
2. Pool, Spa and Outdoor Living ExpoIt is appropriate as summer is still well and truly alive in Melbourne with hot days and ice creams surging in popularity. The
Pool, Spa and Outdoor Living Expo will be held at the exhibition centre this coming weekend as at the time of writing this. Whether you are in the market for a new pool, just looking or wanting to renovate your outdoor living area; then this expo is for you. Door prizes are also up for grabs.
3. A Chorus LineNo doubt,
A Chorus Line is dubbed as one of the longest running musicals in Broadway history. This show returns to Her Majesty's Theatre from the 4th to the 26th of February 2012. This dazzling sensation and new production features a top notch cast headed by Dancing With The Stars' Josh Horner. Quality music for a new generation.
4. St Kilda FestivalThis inner Melbourne suburb has somehow landed itself in the spotlight, and this free celebration that is called the
St Kilda Festival along the St Kilda foreshore is on its way. The festival will run from the 5th to the 12th of February with live performances from more than 60 bands. The St Kilda Festival will also include extreme sport activities, demonstrations, dance as well as some quality entertainment for the kids. A family friendly event.
5. The Famous Spiegel Season
The Famous Spiegel Season begins on the 7th of February, and runs until April so you have a bit more time to enjoy this event. Shows to see include the circus, cabaret, live music and theatre with some quality jazz.
6. Grampians Jazz FestivalFor something a little different, and if you wish to escape the city, then the
Grampians Jazz Festival is worthy of your consideration with an extensive line up of Victoria's most talented Jazz players.
7. Melbourne Bikefest
Melbourne Bikefest is a community celebration for Melbourne's gratitude and appreciation for bike riding and bikes. Further information on this event can also be found by clicking
here.
8. The AFL BeginsOne of Melbourne's favourite past-times, the
AFL. Round one of the annual AFL preseason competition commences.
9. Tropfest 20th AnniversaryTropfest is easily the world's largest short-film festival. Apparently this year's signature item is a "light bulb" with 16 finalists working to win more than $150,000 worth of prizes, and to have their films screened in Melbourne, country Victoria and even around the country for that matter...
While we sadly have to say goodbye to other annual events in February 2012 such as the St Kilda Openair Cinema and the Queen Victoria night markets.
Needless to say February is still seeing the culture capital of Australia entertained. The March events will be covered in another separate article, so watch this space once again. Melbourne is also going to have a busy April in 2012. Awesome.
