While warm for autumn, March was also our wettest in 15 years. As we wave away the rain gods for April, celebrate the sunshine as your laundry dries with the best of Free Brisbane and this list of April's free events and activities.

  • Carseldine Farmers & Artisan Markets – Saturdays, 6am - 12pm
  • Prep for weekend feasts with a trip north to 532 Beams Rd, Carseldine for regional produce, gourmet treats and art. Taste test fresh food ranging from artisan-baked bread, waffles and pies to stonefruit, strawberries and avocados with a backdrop of live music and games for the kids.   • Make Your Own Enchanted Painting – 1 to 17 April, 10am to 5pm
  • To celebrate GOMA's 10th birthday, Nusra Latif Qureshi presents Enchanted Spaces, an exhibition of Mughal miniature painting. This captivating art form was developed for the Pakistani royal court, representing a combination of personal creativity, traditional cultural themes and flora and fauna.   • Power Kids: Little Artists at Play – Tuesdays, 9am to 12pm
  • On the Turbine Platform at the Playhouse on 119 Lamington Street, New Farm, children are led in creative play workshops by internationally acclaimed artists in the fields of theatre, dance, music and digital media.   • Aqua Zumba – Saturdays, 9.30am to 10.15am
  • While neighbours in the southern states rug up against autumn chills, enjoy Brissie's warmth in the boat pool at South Bank Parklands with low impact exercise improving flexibility and strength. View the full Medibank Feel Good Program .

  • Button It – 3 to 9 April, 10am to 4pm
  • Children can bring selfie photos or another favourite image in a button-making workshop, with materials provided at the Museum of Brisbane on 64 Adelaide Street. Visit the Museum of Brisbane website for details.



  • Wild Encounter – 6 April, 9am to 1pm
  • Rangers at Southbank Parklands at Cnr Little Stanley and Tribune Street, South Bank will present a variety of our native wildlife to children, teaching them how to protect these cute creatures and their natural habitats. Visit the Little Days Out website for details.

  • Fishing for children with special needs – 8 April, 11.30am to 4pm
  • Introduce your child with special needs to the joys of sustainable fishing at the Roma Street Parklands at 1 Parkland Boulevard in a workshop teaching catch and release methods for 7-16 year olds.   • Movies in the Park – 8 April, 5pm to 10pm
  • See your favourite films in the openair on the Celebration Lawn at the Roma Street Parkland. At 6.45pm, the Easter themed Hop begins, followed by Grease with Olivia Newtown-John and John Travolta at 8.30pm. Grab dinner at the food trucks serving ice cream, coffee, and South American, Portuguese and Malaysian cuisine. Visit the Roma Street Parkland website for details.

  • Redcliffe Festival of Sails – 14 April, 9am to 4pm
  • Watch the start of Australia's 2nd largest yacht race, the 69th Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race on Good Friday at Suttons Beach. As the boats fade into the horizon, dance to the live music on 2 stages and browse market stalls as children join the Easter egg hunt and marvel at the skydiving Easter Bunny.   • North Brisbane Easter Festival – 14, 15 April, 10am to 9pm
  • Celebrate a family-friendly Easter at Lot 1, Prospect Road, Mitchelton with face painting, music, a petting zoo, bouncing castle and an inflatable soccer field.   • Live Large Festival – 15 to 17 April
  • On the South Bank Parklands, our local community will join together to 'live large' with an entertaining mix of music, workshops and art. Feed on cuisine from American comfort food to healthy wraps, Spanish churros to handcrafted steam buns. Visit the Live Large website for details.

  • 7th Combat Brigade Open Day – 1 April, 9am to 6pm
  • At the 7th Brigade Park, Delaware Street, Chermside, see a range of our Australian Army's specialists on show, with infantry, and working dog demonstrations, armoured vehicles and helicopters and the Army Band playing patriotic anthems. Email the 7th Combat Brigade for details.

  • Buddha Birth Day Festival – 28 to 30 April
  • Celebrate the birthday of Gautama Buddha , the founder of Buddhism, in Brisbane with peace and tranquillity. On Southbank, there will be live music and cooking demos, delicious vegetarian food from pop-up stalls, cultural displays and talks, workshops and arts and crafts.   • Anzac Day Ceremony – 25 April, 2.30pm
  • At the St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital on ANZAC Day, commemorate the sacrifices of our Australian Defence Force veterans alongside former patients and supporters with speeches from hospital and military staff, a band, choir and flag raising and lowering ceremony.   • Live Kirtan – Fridays, 6pm to 8pm
  • In the Mantra Room at 236 Montague Road, West End, the world's first exclusive Kirtan venue, experience the resonating rhythms of expressive music and transcendental chanting, creating an enchanting atmosphere for a special form of group meditation.



  • Asmy - Deep Peace Class – Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 5.30pm to 6.15pm
  • Experience peaceful relaxation with ancient yoga practices guiding your breath, mind and body to feel bliss and peace during a hectic working week. Asmy sessions are hosted at 236 Montague Road, West End.

  • Yoga – Saturdays, 8am to 8.45am and Mondays, 5.45pm to 6.30pm
  • On the Little Stanley Street Lawns in South Bank, be guided by a qualified instructor to discover the mental, physical and spiritual benefits of the ancient practice of yoga.   • City Sounds – Throughout April
  • Australia's largest free music program presents rock, pop, jazz, electronica, blues, country and alternative tunes from local and touring artists. In Post Office Square each Friday, performers include Uncivil Rest with emotive vocals and Angharad Drake channelling Joni Mitchell. In the Wintergarden on Queen St Mall on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, Pat Tierney on slide guitar, the eclectic Matt James on didgeridoo, RAASA with Himalayan tunes on the sitar and Candice Dianna with soulful piano pop feature.   • Energy Class – Wednesdays, 5.45pm to 6.30pm
  • Surge over the midweek slump with a free burst of high energy aerobics, burning the calories savoured during your afternoon snack until you relax on the grass at Little Stanley Street Lawns in South Bank, watching the sun set as a gentle breeze washes over you.   • Exercise with your baby – Wednesdays, 9.30am to 10.15am
  • Introduce your baby to the joys of outdoors before they discover smartphones, console gaming and Pokemon. You'll strengthen and tone all the muscles new parents need to handle their new bub.   • Zumba – Thursdays, 5.45pm to 6.30pm
  • Get fit in style with a free Zumba class, taking the best elements of aerobics and nightclub dancing in an outdoor exercise class on the Little Stanley Street Lawns in South Bank, choreographed and led by a qualified instructor and suitable for all fitness (and dance coordination) levels.   • Knockoff Comedy – Fridays, 6pm to 7pm
  • Laugh your way into the weekend with Funny Fridays at the Brisbane Powerhouse. A quirky mix of Aussie comedians will hit you with their outlandish stories, silly one-liners and laugh-till-you-snort observations. On the last day of the month, chaos takes the stage with the ImproMafia using improvisational comedy instead of Mafia-inspired crime to tickle your funny bone.
