Port Willunga, One of SA' Popular Holiday Destinations

As we recover from the excesses of Christmas, most of us remain in holiday mode - even many people who have to work on the odd days before New Year's Day. It's not called the festive season for nothing!

Escaping to holiday destinations on the South Australian coast from beautiful Port Willunga to bustling Victor Harbor is one way to stay cool, and there are plenty of fun things to do for kids during the school holidays at most places. Hallett Cove Beach is definitely good for a day trip too. Further afield the Copper Coast is very popular, and if you find yourself in Moonta Bay check out the amazing new Splash Town Water Park at Moonta Bay. There are plenty of activities for kids and it's free - what more could you want.

The towns of Beachport and Robe on the Limestone Coast are immensely popular for short holidays too, and have the advantage of being cooler in summer.

Back in Adelaide most people have been canvassing their options for New Year's Eve, and you can find suggestions to suit all ages here.

Flying High Over Delfin Island at West Lakes

I've heard that many of our readers enjoy getting high, and one way to do this is taking a helicopter joy flight. It's an awesome way to see the countryside, but probably better done before visiting the wineries rather than after.

Summer Sundays at Beaumont House is a lovely way to relax and enjoy a lazy afternoon at the market stalls. Be sure to come hungry to enjoy some street food from Fork on the Road food trucks. Entry for adults is $5, and kids get in free.

Jonathon Phoon has found another option for cheap eats in Adelaide - Katsumoto Restaurant in Gay's Arcade offers great Japanese food at a budget price.

While you're in the city, have you seen the Iridescence Exhibition at the South Australian Museum?

Finally January will be your last chance to take a day tour inside Z Ward Glenside Hospital before renovations commence. There are also tours for photographers and Paranormal Investigations and ghost tours.

Not everyone will be at the coast this summer. One of our writers suggests Riverton in the little known Gilbert Valley is great for a weekend getaway. What do you think? There's certainly plenty for trainspotters to see.
