There is a feast of free activities taking place this month, with many areas having cultural festivals and street parties. Here are some of the biggest and best.


1. Neon Picnic: 40 Years of RTRFM
Help celebrate 40 years of broadcasting with one of Perth's favourite radio stations – RTRFM. With a star-studded picnic, live radio shows, former and current broadcasters, plus local bands and musicians this will be a trip down memory lane – or just a big day out for the young 'uns. This is a family friendly event with free activities for kids plus an on-site licenced bar, food trucks, party games and bouncy castle.When: Saturday 1st April from 9am to 5pmWhere: Hyde Park, North PerthCost: Free

2. Night Noodle Markets
Part of Good Food Month, the popular Night Noodle Markets will be feeding your senses for two final nights, with 20 hawker style food stalls plus bars and nightly music and entertainment.

When: Saturday 1st (4pm to 10pm) and Sunday 2nd April (4pm to 9pm)

3. Joondalup Festival
The Joondalup Festival takes place over a full weekend and is all about encouraging audiences to become performers and observers to become co-creators.

Some of the highlights include:

String Symphony - puppeteering a large-scale marionette where groups of strangers work together to give the giant puppet life.

Twilight Lantern Parade –see the streets of Joondalup come alive with over 1,500 people parading their creations.

The Cloud Sculpture - a unique interactive sculpture made from more than 6,000 light bulbs being proudly unveiled for the first time in Australia.

The Kids Canopy - designed just for kids, with ongoing and regular performances of mime, circus, clowning and comedy.

4. Australia's Funniest Shorts (Film Festival)
Australia's Funniest Shorts is the one of the top short film festivals in Australia, and provides our best comedians and filmmakers a chance to screen their work.

When: Saturday 1st April from 7-8pm
Where: Balmoral Hotel, 901 Albany Highway, Vic Park

5. Newman Twilight Fair
The Newman Twilight Fair is part of the weekend-long Newman Arts Festival and will have a range of activities including rides, school market stalls, artisan craft markets, food stalls and more.
The Newman Arts Festival is now in its 40th year and will be open across the weekend displaying significant local and Australian artists.

When: Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd April from 4pm to 8pm (exhibition 12-8pm Saturday and 10am-3pm Sunday)

6. Excelsior Primary School Fair
Head to Excelsior Primary's fair and enjoy a day of market stalls, water slides, rides, live entertainment, and lots more. Bring the whole family.

7. Swan Valley and Surrounds Market Day
Head to the Valley for a fabulous market day with arts and crafts stalls, car and motorcycle displays, kids zone, free entertainment, food trucks, vintage collections, fashion parades and more.

8. Family Festival
Families are invited to the Family Festival in honour of World Autism Awareness Day, with a huge line-up of fun activities including bouncy castle, gym bus, music, sausage sizzle, ice cream and coffee vans, face painting, bubbles and more. There will also be information booths about Autism and everyone is encouraged to wear blue.

9. Subiaco Street Party
Get back to Subi for the second annual Subi Street Party. Last year attracted 35,000 people and this year will be even bigger and better with more music, more food, more entertainment, more bars and more art, fashion and shopping.

10. April Fool's Circus Show
Head along to this spectacular put on by the students and teachers of the CirQuest Circus School and be amazed by their skills, then have a go yourself.

When: April 8th,from 5pm-8pm

11. Fremantle Easter Hunt
Head to Fremantle for the "eggcellent" free Easter hunt, with plenty of prizes up for grabs. Grab a map, find the bilbys in shops across Freo and crack the code to enter the prize draw.

When: 8th to 12th April
Where: hunt begins at the Esplanade, Fremantle

12.Youth Fest
Head to Canning for a brand new festival just for young people aged 12-17 years. Youth Fest will bring together young people of different backgrounds for one big day of entertainment, empowerment and inspiration. You will find bubble soccer, a Silent Disco, DJ's, demonstrations, henna and more.

When: Saturday 8th April 2017 2pm - 5pm

13. Fremantle International Street Arts Festival
Join in Australia's only dedicated street arts festival, focussing on some of the world's most talented street performers. Taking place across the Easter long weekend, the streets will be transformed into open-air theatres with the added bonus of amazing bars and eateries and pop-ups throughout. Discover busking, street theatre, cabaret, comedy, circus and more.

When: Thursday 13th to Monday 17th April
Where: The streets of Fremantle – from Market Street, South Terrace, High Street, Esplanade Reserve to Fremantle Prison.

14. Cockburn Cultural Fair
Everyone is welcome to the Cockburn Cultural Fair where you will be inspired by the diversity of foods, traditions and cultures in this wonderful city. Get crafty with hands-on arts and craft workshops, visit the food and market stalls, learn about sustainability and be amazed by the Cockburn's Got Talent final.

15. ANZAC Dawn Service
The ANZAC Day dawn service is one of Australia's biggest, with crowds of thousands paying their respects to the brave men and women who fought for Australia in the wars.
