Australia Day is just around the corner and loads of people are looking for something fun to do. If you want to join in the celebrations on Australia Day there are plenty of organised events for you to check out, but you need to get in early for a good vantage point.

The City of Perth is preparing for its annual spectacular Australia Day Skyshow, Skyworks, on the Swan River foreshore. The theme for this year's Skyworks show is 'Our Country in Colour' and promises to be a fantastic event, as always.

The Fireworks will be accompanied by a new laser and water spectacular. Eight large water fountains will be installed into the Swan River, spraying giant arcs of water into the air, paired with laser effects.

The SkyWorks show is expected to draw over three hundred thousand people and the whole spectacular will be visible from Langley Park's fantastic new entertainment zone.

There will be loads of family entertainment in Langley Park during the day with a variety of free activities kicking off from 3pm. The free entertainment will include shows by Circus Joseph Ashton, animals, kids' 'beach club' arenas, camel and pony rides, mini golf and much, much more.

The Indian Ocean Skyshow is an annual joint venture between the City of Fremantle and the City of Cockburn .

Said to be the largest fireworks display ever launched off the Western Australia coastline, this event is popular with families and is a great outing that eveyone can enjoy.

If you want to kick off the Australia Day celebrations early the City of Cockburn is also hosting a free Australia Day BBQ Brekky at Coogee Beach Reserve from 7am till 11am. Bring along the family and celebrate Australia Day with a free brekky and plenty of free, fun games and activities.

The Air BP Show will return again this year with demonstrations by the RAAF, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority's search and rescue team and the Fire and Emergency Services Authority's fire-fighting helicopter crew. The show begins at 3.30pm and finishes at 7.45pm.

The City of Perth has a variety of events planned for Australia Day. There will be a free movie screening in Sir James Mitchell Park, South Perth. The movie Red Dog will be screened at 11am.

You can attend one of the Citizenship and Award Ceremonies that are being held in Perth, Victoria Park and South Perth.

Enjoy a family picnic at one of the 'Picnic Zones' in either Kings Park or Langley Park.

Come along to the 'Celebration Zone' in Sir James Mitchell Park, between 2pm and 8pm, for loads of free activities and entertainment.

There will be a free live concert, featuring the Mucky Duck Bush Band, at Sir James Mitchell Park, between 6pm and 8pm.

Be entertained by the Catamaran Classic, WA Show Ski Team and the Jet Sport West PWC's at the Water Regatta which starts at 5pm.

These are just some of the Australia Day events planned for this year. Check your local council website and see what they have on offer.

Details do sometimes change so it's a good idea to check the websites before attending.

Whether you choose to attend an event or celebrate Australia Day with a backyard BBQ, have a safe and happy Australia Day.
