It can be a challenge taking children out, whether it is for an hour or for a whole day, but there are plenty of cost effective options to keep the children occupied, happy and entertained right here in Sydney. Whether you wish to take your own children out, or you are child minding someone else's children for the day, make this article your go to guide for a simple, enjoyable and less stressful experience for all.

1. Go to Manly

Take your children to Manly, and the best way of getting to Manly is to catch a ferry from Circular Quay Wharf 3. 2. Luna Park

Luna Park is a child's delight. I remember when I was a child, I enjoyed Luna Park, especially visiting Coney Island and the dodgem cars. Entry is free, and if you wish to go on any of the rides, you pay for "lunas" at different rates. A simple and cheap child friendly establishment. It is advisable to bring lunch and snacks for your children or for the children that you happen to be minding on this occasion to keep costs down as much as possible. Food is expensive at Luna Park, otherwise Luna Park is a great locale that has continued to stay open.

3. Darling Park

There is always something for the kids to enjoy at Darling Harbour - from the street entertainment to the water fountains and of course, the new Darling Park . A great spot for family picnics and playgrounds for the children with ping pong tables.

4. Taroonga Zoo

Which child in Sydney does not want to go to the zoo? That's right - "the zoo" is a popular place for adults and children alike with a diverse array of animals on show, including dolphin feeding sessions and the like. Catch a ferry from Circular Quay and leave the car at home as parking at the zoo can be a nightmare.

5. ANZ Stadium Tour @ Sydney Olympic Park

This tour offers a bird's eye views of the ANZ Stadium (formerly the main Olympic stadium) at Sydney Olympic Park. You will be walking on a steel gantry that is 45 metres above the ground, and has continued to be popular since this tour started in February 2011.
