Here in Melbourne it's the Queen's Birthday long weekend - possibly the most boring long weekend in the year since the weather is terrible and the only interesting thing to do is go to the footy. Otherwise, the tendency is either to go to somewhere hot for a few days or stay in with the heater on.

There is one thing though that brightens the Queen's Birthday holiday like a beacon through the fog - almost quite literally.

Most years (because the second Sunday and Second Monday in June don't always line up) the Tony Awards are broadcast on Foxtel on the Queen's Birthday - and this year is no exception.

For those who don't know, the Tony Awards are the American Theatre version of the Academy Awards, where you get to see a fair few movie stars in the audience and several receiving awards for their stage contributions.

On top of that, you also get a few snippets of shows that have been on Broadway over the past year. Last year we got to see Daniel Radcliffe strutting his stuff in How To Achieve in Business Without Really Trying, a hilarious snippet from the slightly wrongtown The Book of Mormon plus an on-stage mock-bitchfight between Hugh Jackman and Neil Patrick Harris set to Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better.

This year, who knows, but we'll definitely be seeing pieces from the year's big hits and if you're interested to know who's up for awards this year, click here .

Now, to make this a truly Queen's Birthday-worthy experience you will need the following:
1) A TV
2) Foxtel or a friend who has Foxtel (I don't have Foxtel so I outsource my Tonys experience)
3) A Couch
4) A Blanket
5) A Heater
6) A hot beverage of your choice
7) S'Mores

"What are S'Mores?" I hear you ask.

These are a traditional American treat which consists of biscuits, chocolate and marshmallow - sort of like a chocolate royal but in the wrong order.

They're very easy to make - sometimes very easy to make badly, but even when they're falling to pieces they're still delicious. Here's a recipe with several options on how to make them.

Now, any recipe you find for these delicious American delicacies will call for Graham Crackers, which in this country are virtually nonexistent (except in specialty US import shops). In Australia, the nearest equivalent is the Granita biscuit. It's a bit thicker, but still quite delicious.

Obviously if you can't come across Hershey chocolate easily then you can substitute any type of chocolate. In the past, we've used Cadburys or Whittakers, but I'd just use your favourite.

You can even experiment with the different flavoured marshmallows that are around this time of year, but in my opinion, the pink and white make the best ones.

Here are some pictures to help you along.

Once you've made them you can sit back and relax as soon as you've grabbed item 8 from the list - serviettes!

Happy Queen's Birthday all.
