Tindo Utpurndee - Sunset Ceremony

The 2017 Adelaide Fringe Festival will be officially opened with a traditional Aboriginal sunset ceremony - Tindo Utpurndee .



Come along at 8pm on Friday the 17th of February, find a patch of grass on the front gardens of the South Australian Museum on North Terrace in the city and be totally enthralled by this stunning music and dance performance.



In 2016, more than 1000 people enjoyed the performance put on by South Australia's traditional Aboriginal group Yellaka .

Yellaka means "Old Wisdom - New Ways". The group are proud of their heritage and foster the transfer of knowledge of the ancient Kaurna aboriginal culture to today's modern youth.



Yellaka is led by Karl Winda Telfer, Senior Kaurna Custodian in partnership with his wife Sonia Waters. The Yellaka leadership team includes Janelle Saunders, Karno Martin and Dearna Newchurch. The support team and cultural dancers are: Haydyn Bromley and Lele Sanderson, Jakirah Telfer, Tikana Telfer, Tanay Giles, Iteka Sanderson-Bromley, Tamaana Sanderson-Bromley, Sherwyn Swan, Allen Wombat and Isaac Highfold.



This special and free event comes to you from Australia's first people and the world's oldest indigenous cultures. The dance and smoking ceremony is a celebration of the Kaurna people's connections to the spirits of their land; their stories and their culture - it's an exciting and fascinating experience to watch and is a must see this Fringe Festival.
