For an unique weekend trip head to Kulin's Tin Horse Highway in the WA Wheatbelt.
About 400km from Perth, this fantastic roadway series of sculptures were originally created to promote the Kulin Bush Races in the late 1990s.
We were expecting a handful but there are more then 20 horses. Some very funny and others extremely artistic. There were race horses, sea horses, horses on toilets, horses in planes and horses playing tennis.
The kids were delighted at the range and cleverness showed in the sculptures, many of which were made in the sheds of local farms. It was also a terrific example of how a community has come together for the benefit of the whole town.
Our Sunday trip last week was combined with a stopover to Stumpy's Roadhouse in Brookton, the best home-made pie I have tried in a long while, and the Kulin swimming pool. Sadly due to staffing problems, the Kulin waterslide was not running. But the pool and facilities are first class. The kids loved it and I got to do my laps!
For something very different, head out to Kulin sometime. What was put in to attract people to the races, is now a year-long attraction. It was also very interesting watching massive harvesters from the roadside harvest grain crops and the landscape was very picturesque littered with bales of straw on gentle hills.
