Bendigo, a town rich in gold mining history, is 150 kilometres north-west of Melbourne. Greater Bendigo National Park surrounds the town and is a great place for hiking and picnics.

The town centre is easy to navigate and retains many heritage listed buildings. Hargreaves Street is a main shopping strip and includes fashion outlets, cafes and markets.

If you get tired from exploring the town, The Vintage Talking Tram Tour is a favourite with tourist, and covers 8.4 kilometres throughout the city.

A friendly place to take a break for lunch and a drink is the Hotel Shamrock Restaurant & Cafe Bendigo , at the corner of Pall Mall and Williamson Street. There is a saloon-style bar and lounge downstairs, and a Victorian Wine Room upstairs with fine dining.

Bendigo has several festivals throughout the year with an arts and agriculture focus. The Bendigo Agricultural Show is on the 26th and 27th of October. General enquiries can be emailed to [email protected]. It includes markets, animal shows, games and food stalls. It is a good time to stay in Bendigo when the spring weather sets in.

There are many accommodation options in Bendigo. A great pick for value and location is Comfort Inn Julie-Anna . The rooms are recently renovated, and the Comfort Inn is close to the CBD, at 268 Napier Street, Bendigo. It also has a pool. Call Julie on (03) 5442 5855 with your enquiries.
