For 14 days the
London Restaurant Festival will be organising a whole raft of foodie-related activities across the capital. Gourmets and gourmands alike will be salivating at the very thought of a festival of food, and this one promises to be one to remember.
Last year was the first year of this festival, with more than 450 restaurants taking part, while this time around it's hoped that as many as 800 will get involved, publicising all that's great about eating out in the capital while at the same time raising the profile of its many restaurants with their multitude of cuisines.
Look out for the festival menus – menus designed especially for the duration of the festival, giving participating restaurants a great chance to strut their stuff, showing off the best of what they have to offer. Comprising a minimum of two courses, festival menus will be available at lunch and dinner, from prices that your piggy bank won't even notice to ones that might not only burn a hole in your pocket but also leave a scorch mark on your leg as well. The choice really is yours.
Special events for the festival include The Big Quiz (11th October) at Le Cafe Anglais, hosted by top chef
Rowley Leigh. Teams of eight are welcome to enter the quiz, and tickets include a festival menu dinner at the venue.
If you're the kind of person who enjoys dinner with a view, how about bidding for the chance to dine in a London Eye capsule, cooked up by top British chef
Gordon Ramsay. Sounds great, though if he loses his temper there'll be nowhere to run. There's seating for ten, with the dinner taking place on 8th October. Proceeds from the highest bidder go to the London Restaurant Festival's nominated charity,
StreetSmart.
Other events include the
Big Debate, the
Restaurant Festival Awards, the
Gourmet Odyssey and the
Supersonic Masonique Supper Club. There'll also be a festival market where restaurants will be presenting their popular dishes alongside wares from their suppliers and producers.
This festival may be in its infancy, but with support from the capital's foodies it's certain to get bigger and better every year.
