Scarborough - it has been a few years since I have been in this area, and it sure has changed. What with the new swimming pool, many new units, the area seems much cleaner and nicer than it used to be.

There are many eating places around here and around the Rendezvous Hotel, however, we were lucky to go to the Wild Fig. This is situated on the corner of The Esplanade and Brighton Roads, Scarborough - 190 The Esplanade.

It is quite a large place with a view over the water and seating was inside and out. Outside, they are also dog-friendly with bowls of water out for the dogs.

To be quite honest, we did not expect much as there were several reviews around that were not very good, however, we were pleasantly surprised - not only were the waitresses extremely friendly and accommodating, but the food was excellent! The menu was not huge, however, it was definitely ample and they had specials which the waitress told us about.

The cafe has been there for about seven years with new owners taking over about two years ago. The ambience is very pleasing and they have a few great lampshades which are very different!

The usual problem of what to have - the Angus beef sandwich, or the share platter, of which there were two different ones - a seafood one and a meat one.

After much ado (no, not about nothing!), we decided on the share platter, as it had tastings of many of the foods on the menu.

This had smoked Chorizo sausages done to perfection, a duck pancake, salad/olives, confit of chicken terrine with ciabatta, lamb ribs and beef sliders.

This was served to us by Sarah, who was bubbly and had suggested we had some chips. They were accommodating in that we only wanted half a serve and Sarah did not argue about that.

It was served on a wooden board and had several dipping sauces with it.

Each and everything on that plate was delicious! Quite an unusual mixture and we plated it on to the plates provided.

My friend could not finish as it was quite a big share plate which came in at $50; we both thought was very reasonable for what we got.

Of course, we had both had enough but as usual, when the waitress asked if we wanted the dessert menu, I said yes, knowing full well that I could not fit it in any way. I love to see the dessert menu, even when I do not take anything from it.

I also went and looked at the cakes in the display window near the entrance.

There was a very good choice, including raw cakes and slices and to my horror, I found myself mouthing the words - I will have the lemon meringue tart as it is smaller than the rest.

Well, it arrived on a big plate, beautifully done with a raspberry coulis and heaps of whipped cream.

Who could resist something like this? Needless to say, I had no trouble woofing this down and it was delicious. I could not finish the coffee, however, as had eaten way too much.

A stroll along the beachside after proved a very difficult thing to do and we left the area feeling totally satisfied and very happy with our choice of .
