Sanur Beach, Bali is bursting with outstanding places to eat however, was definitely my favorite non-Balinese dining selection here. After a sunset walk along the beachfront, we sauntered through the oh so serene grounds of Griya Santrian Resort to reach, .

By Balinese standards, this place is up-market - casual, with modern lounges, starched white tablecloths and candle lit tables ensuring the atmosphere remains quite romantic while being delightfully child friendly. Strange but true. The food here is strictly Italian - with no hint of Balinese fusion, so don't expect any Gado Gado to feature on the menu.

After several weeks living in a traditional Balinese community, with my kids on a diet of warung style Nasi Goreng (fried rice), the allure of real Italian cuisine was unimaginably tempting for our family. We walked into the outdoor cafe and turned en masse towards the smell of fresh wood fired pizza, which was ordered immediately.

I devoured a plate of juicy New Zealand Mussels, while my husband enjoyed divine Fusili Spinach Gorgonzola (all home made) and crisp Italian white wine. For dessert, my children could not go past the home made strawberry gelato, and I was in heaven with my Ginger Creme Brulee.

While we welcomed the break from our Asian rice diet, I'm sure that anyone who appreciates authentic Italian food and sophisticated ambiance will find The VIllage - Cucina Italiana a memorable dining experience, perfect for special occasions.
