The Shiralee is a modest, family run backpackers hostel based just outside of Perth on Brisbane Street, just around the corner from the fantastic Beaufort Street. Although based in a fairly residential area, it's still a place that you can party, as long as you try and keep noise to a respectable level.



It's more intimate and atmospheric than the bigger, corporate ran hostels and the owners are very friendly and helpful to guests. they have a kitchen and a TV/DVD area. They have internet access and WiFi capabilities for travelers. They also have a job board which is frequently updated and handy for working travelers to find bits and bobs around the area.

Another bonus for working visa holders or Australian travelers is that it's a handy place to live for a quick commute to work if you're working in or around Perth city centre.

Prices are middle of the road for Perth backpackers, with 6 bed dorms starting at $180 per week and $26 per night, and twin rooms at $68 per night. I only stayed here briefly and was happy with the service I received and the central location, lying right by the entertainment district of Northbridge.
