I don't really want to even tell you about this place to be honest, because some things you just want to keep to yourself.
There is a pub, known by few, and hidden away enough to keep it off the radar of most - the name of the pub is the Seven Stars. It is a special little pub in many ways. Firstly, it is old, very old. In fact it is actually believed to be one of the few buildings to have survived the
Great Fire of London.
Secondly, due to the fact that it is located off the main drag, and just in front of the Temple law courts - you are more likely to find lawyer types here than camera-clickers. Thirdly, it is has a resident cat (advertised as being 'mean' on the chalkboard in the picture - don't worry, they're only joking), which I believe should be the policy of all pubs in London, such is the warmth factor that is provided by this simple detail, especially when the cat is prone to.
Apart from these things, it is unusually open every day of the week. I say unusual as for anybody who has entered the City proper at a weekend, will notice the distinct ghost-town feel that pervades once the bankers and brokers have vacated their work places come a Friday. It serves decent ale, and there is food to order for the peckish too, but the charm is sitting inside and soaking in the history of the pub and its environs.
You will naturally become a little curious, so it is worth having a bit of a look around not just the pub, but the area should you decide to come (and why wouldn't you?), as there are all manner of quaint and unusual shops and buildings to be seen - the Temples themselves, and another of my favourites, The Wig Box, an antique dealers which specialises in lawyer's wigs (but I'll tell you more about that another day).
So, if you want to treat yourself to the London that you imagined before moving here, or that is portrayed in many Hollywood movies - yet actually has the charm and authenticity to back it up, come along and check it out - just be careful going to the loo ...(you'll KNOW what I mean!)
