The third annual
event will be held on
Sunday, 24th of February. This popular
free live music event brings together the very best local rockabilly and rock and roll bands.
This celebration of rockabilly culture is part of the
Adelaide Fringe and the events program is proudly held in Port Adelaide Heritage Pubs such as Dockside Tavern, Port Dock Brewery, First Commercial and The Lighthouse Hotel, but one of the major highlights of the event will be at The British, as Dick Dandy & His Wingmen will take to the stage for a very special performance alongside
The Jamjets , who celebrating a remarkable 18 years together, as well as launching their latest CD release.
Whilst
Dick Dandy & His Wingmen are relatively new on the live music scene, they are quickly gaining a reputation as the band to watch in 2013.
The band itself was formed by chance, as Tristan 'Dick Dandy' Newsome was called in to replace the vocalist of 'The Saucermen' on short notice at the 2012
Semaphore Music Festival . Despite the last minute change to the line up, the performance was well received.
The band have a great love for early rockabilly music; their eclectic influences range from the likes of Johnny Cash, Eddie Cochran, Screamin' Jay Hawkins and Gene Vincent, to rockabilly revivalist bands like The Reverend Horton Heat. You can listen to some of their tracks at
Reverbnation .
At the upcoming event, the Dick Dandy & His Wingmen line up will consist of Dick Dandy on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Peter Poropat on lead guitar, Francis Macri on double bass and Hayden Millsteed on drums, who also plays with Francis Macri in the renowned rockabilly band '
The Saucermen '.
