Have you noticed that most clubs these days just play the same 'doof doof' music? I'm not sure if you share the same view as me, but I have had enough of it! There is, however, one place in Melbourne that I can always go to for some great live music and for a great night out: Welcome to
The Night Cat!
Located on Johnston Street, Fitzroy,
The Night Cat has been around for the past sixteen years helping Melbournians get their funk on. Equipped with a live band that has a mean brass section, this establishment plays an impressive range of genres ranging from the contemporary beats of hip hop, reggae and Afro-Cuban to the funkadelic sounds of James Brown, aka the 'Godfather of Soul' and the hardest working man in show biz.
The Night Cat has a unique set up in that the stage where the band plays is situated in the centre, enabling the audience to experience the entertainment from a 360 degree view. So don't worry about missing out on the band when you need to go refill your drink, enjoy the view and enjoy the band from the comfort of the bar!
The Night Cat is open from Thursday right through to Sunday with free entry from 9pm. Saturday nights are usually dedicated for the funk, with Sunday nights being Salsa night. If you can't salsa, do not be discouraged, just simple pick up someone at the place and learn from them! It's a win-win situation eh?
Next time you think about a night out, come and try out
The Night Cat! It is undeniably the best place to start the party and shake that funk!
