Melbourne has some great cafés and while some of them may receive more hype than they deserve there are others that deserve more recognition for the excellent food and coffee that they serve up.

The Hopetoun Tea Rooms

Named after its founder Lady Hopetoun the Hopetoun Tea Rooms offer a touch of class in the Block Arcade near Melbourne Central. The Hopetoun Tea Rooms offer consistently good food as well as fantastic service from friendly waiters. The highlight of the Hopetoun Tea Rooms has to be their fantastic high tea with incredible cakes and delicious sandwiches on offer.

Kinfolk

Found at 673 Bourke St this café serves incredibly good strong coffee and some incredible food. With this level of quality you would expect that someone would be making a tidy profit but the best thing of all is that this is a not for-profit café with proceeds donated to the truly needy. The most important decision, then, is which of the money worthy causes you choose to donate to with your coffee bean allocation determining where the money is sent.

Brown Bagels

On 330 Collins St is a shop with a name that doesn't conjure images of delicious food. However what Brown Bagels gives up in name it more than makes up for with the quality of its Bagels filled with premium ingredients as well as some high quality coffee.

If you know any other underrated cafés then please leave a comment.
