It would be easy to miss the Mitcham Hotel, at the corner of Maroondah Highway and Mitcham Road, some 20 kms east of Melbourne, if you weren't concentrating. Because it is at a busy major intersection, it would be wise to check your Melways before setting out just to be sure of directions and location. There is ample parking at the rear of the hotel.
The offical address is 556 Maroondah Highway, Mitcham, and the telephone number is (03) 9874 8899. Their website is: Mitcham Hotel
A visit is well worthwhile, especially when it comes to choosing a good location for a meal for a group of seniors. With a group of some 24 folk I had lunch in the dining room on Monday, and all of us were rewarded with a good wholesome meal. A two course meal costs $10, with either soup or a sweet included. A three course meal is $11.50.
The main meal choice covers fish and chips, chicken parmigiana, beef pie, a chicken and mushroom risotto, and roast of the day.
They also cater for Kids' Birthday Parties. Party menus include fairy bread, little franks, party pies, sausage rolls, chicken nuggets and chips, a balloon, party hat and lolly bag. The birthday child receives a special gift and Ice Cream Birthday Cake. (Almost makes you wish you could order a "kids birthday party" for yourself - even though you may be older than 60).
The Mitcham Hotel Bistro hours are: Lunch - Monday through Sunday 12 noon to 2.30 p.m., Dinner - Sunday through Thursday, 6pm through to 9pm, and Dinner Friday and Saturday 5.30 pm through to 9.30 pm.
The Mitcham Hotel is a nice place to meet and to have a good meal. Very pleasant surroundings and the staff are very helpful.
