What better way can there be of treating yourself or your loved ones than buying a cake? I can honestly say I don't know anybody who doesn't like cakes - not any of my family, not any of my friends, nor my colleagues, and probably neither my enemies.
We use them as treats, we eat them to round off a good meal - and what do we usually buy (or bake if we're talented in that way) for celebrations like birthdays? - exactly. Now wouldn't you be happy to know the location of a really good cake shop? 'Cause you would.
The Hummingbird Bakery is one of those cake shops that you have probably walked past, and looked longingly at the window displays before scanning the queue outside the door and scuttling off. Now it is true that the shop is usually full to the brim of eager customers, ready to pounce the sugary delights - especially the
original shop in Portobello Road (pictured) - but here is exactly why you should brave the throng.
They do oh so pretty
cupcakes, in more flavours than you can count on your digits and classic cakes, including wedding cakes, which can be made to order. Probably the reason for coming though is the American influence of desserts like the
pies and
brownies. If you haven't tried Key Lime Pie, well, quite simply you don't know what your missing.
So, brace yourself, grab a cake, grab a coffee and revel in sponge, sugar and fondant icing!
