The Grove Establishment is situated in the heart of Ashgrove, and is not only making a name for itself, but has put the rather restaurant conservative suburb on the 'dining out' map. Encompassing a restaurant, cafe, and bar, its no wonder it's drawing a crowd.
I personally have been to 'The Grove' on a number of occasions for a variety of different reasons, and that's what I love about the place. Since it opened in 2007, I have caught up with friends over coffee on their comfy couches, wined and dined with my other half in style, and celebrated a number of birthdays downstairs in the roots bar with a few too many of their infamous cocktails.
Upstairs is where you will find The Groves a la carte restaurant and steak house which is open for lunch and dinner, and offers a take-away service. The menu has a wide variety to choose from, although their famous wood-fired pizzas are a must. The mains are priced between $20-$30, and are well worth the buck.
Downstairs houses the Roots Bar, which provides a cozy and relaxed atmosphere perfect for either a quiet drink and a game of pool, or the beginnings of a ratty night out. They even offer a free non-alcoholic drink to designated drivers, something you don't often come across.
The Grove is open six days a week Tuesday through Sunday, and provides something different each and every day. Sunday evenings are my favourite with $2 pizzas on offer between 3pm and 5pm, followed closely by Tuesday night trivia, which I am yet to win.
