Do you hear the sounds of dirty indie pop and drunken roars as soon as someone mentions Camden Town? Well, think again.
Welcome to the
Green Note - the venue and restaurant at the top of Camden's Parkway where there is always time to sit back and relax, and where even the quietest of unplugged guitars can actually be distinguished from the noise outside. This cosy, vegetarian eatery serves up a fantastic mix of value-for-money tapas and full breakfasts, topped up with delicious daily specials including mouth-watering desserts. The menu boats a wide range of herbal teas as well as organic beer and wine.
But that's not enough. This veggie cafe and restaurant doubles up as one of the most respected folk venues in the area, with live music most days of the week. And on the first Sunday of every month, some of the most talented troubadours and singer/songwriters on the London scene gather for the
Green Note Open Mic, an afternoon of entertainment, insights and plenty of unplugged guitars. This Open Mic event, which used to be weekly, has gained reputation amongst its guests as the perfect place to try out new material and get honest feedback from a crowd that really listens. Respect is at the heart of it, and the atmosphere is one of genuine friendliness and warmth.
The Green Note Open Mic, like most open mic events of its kind, concludes with a featured artist, and music scene veterans like
Gary Dunne and
James Yuill have been amongst the guests in the past. Pop down for detox or retox at 1pm on the last Sunday of every month, enjoy walls covered in iconic artwork by
Twinkle Troughton, stunning food, beautifully atmospheric decor, and the best of company.
