If you haven't been to The Gate yet, you're missing out on a truly unique dining experience.

With the gorgeous, award winning Beer Gardens and alfresco dining areas, as well as their large restaurant and Sports Bar, there are so many ways to enjoy an evening there. But be sure to book, as tables fill up fast.

The restaurant itself is gorgeous - the decor is stunning, the set out is superb and the service is flawless. Our waitress was polite, engaging and helpful.

Our entrees arrived quickly. We had ordered the $12 Dips and Bits tasting plate, the $12 Cherry Tomato Bruschetta and the Oysters Kilpatric ($3 each). The Bruschetta was filling, hot and delicious- the basil with a balsamic vinegar reduction was an interesting addition to the grilled bread, but it added an extra flavour, giving the Bruschetta a new dimension.

The Dips and Bits were fantastic - with the Turkish bread and the herb rubbed pizza bianca and three specialty dips, this entree was quite filling, so best ordered to share.

As I am not a fan of the Oysters Kilpatric I didn't have any, but apparently they were lovely, but there was a bit too much barbecue sauce.

For main meals we ordered the Fish and Chips ($22), the Chicken Parma Success ($26) and the Roasted Pumpkin and Fetta Penne ($22). The fish and chips were served with a lovely house Tartare sauce which was wonderful, and the chips and salad were plentiful. The fish was however battered in a beer batter - there is nothing wrong with beer batter really, I just don't see the appeal of it myself.

The Chicken Parma Success was fantastic - the best parmigiana around in my opinion. The cheese, a mix of grated fetta and mozzarella was stringy and bubbly. The herb crumbed chicken by itself was wonderful - while it was covered with the napoli sauce it wasn't soggy as many parmigianas are, which was fantastic. And the addition of prosciutto instead of ham gave it a slightly different flavour which set it out from all others.

The Roasted Pumpkin and Fetta Penne was delightful. Normally I can't stand pumpkin - I don't like the taste. However, in this dish, surrounded by the ribbons of zuccini and the Italian tomato sauce it blended nicely, creating an inviting aroma and a unique taste.

For dessert, try the house made Apple and Rhubarb Crumble ($10) or the Affogato Al Cafe ($6) - vanilla ice cream served with a shot of coffee, served with biscotti. But if I was you I'd pass on the Frangellico you can choose to have added to the ice cream - it's a bit too much. Or you can try one of the many cakes they have on display in their chilled cabinets. So many to choose from, you won't know where to start.

If you are planning to go to The Gate, for just a drink, the prices are fairly reasonable and the bar is a lively place - with big screen TVs, they air most of the sport programs and games, in a friendly environment.

On those occasions when you're wanting a good bottle of wine to enjoy at home, remember to pop into their bottle shop where you can browse through a wide selection, or if you know what you want, simply use their drive through service. This is a popular service for most patrons, as it is nearby, convenient and the staff are helpful.

If you are planning your next function, think of The Gate - they can close off a section of the restaurant or garden for you, and can take larger parties quite easily.

So no matter what you are looking for, you are sure to find it at The Gate. The inviting, friendly and relaxed atmosphere makes this restaurant a definite winner.

The Restaurant promotes drinking responsibly and the Bar and Sports Bar are 18 areas.
