Looking for something nice to do this weekend? For a scenic day out, The Gap has a lot to offer, with incredible views of the Tasman sea and various vantage points along which one can appreciate beautiful turquoise and white waves crashing onto the limestone age-old rocks along the shoreline. Not only that, you can even see the world famous Harbour Bridge and city skyline forming a stunning backdrop for the jet boats and yachts cruising peacefully along the horizon.

Overlooking the suburbs of Watsons Bay and Vaucluse in eastern Sydney, the ocean cliff is located on South Head. Free parking is available along the street, but is limited. A picturesque walk along the coastline offers numerous lookout points to take photographs and admire the scenery.

The Gap also has an interesting history from when the British first arrived in the First Fleet in 1788. A makeshift signalling station was built atop the ridge followed by military emplacements and the building of a garrison to dock artillery for the defense of Port Sydney. You can read about these and a lot more at the light house and other points along the trail.

The best part? You can enjoy some of the beautiful views in Sydney at The Gap for absolutely free. Whether you're a local or tourist, I'm sure you don't be disappointed.

Adjacent to the lookout points and coastal walk, Robertson Park is a neatly groomed, easy on the eye, family-friendly area to enjoy a picnic or simply sit down on the park benches and relax for a few minutes. The amazing view in front of you is truly a postcard picture with white yachts and boats docked in the jetty area in front of Vaucluse Yacht Club on the sparkling blue waters.

The facilities include quaint cafes where you can have lunch, drinks or enjoy an ice cream indoors or out. The Gap is easily accessible by ferry, which stops at Watsons Bay Ferry Station, or by road.

Would I come back? I think so. It's a lovely location for a walk and picnic outdoors or simply to enjoy some of the best views in Sydney away from the concrete jungle and day to day hustle.
