The Floating Bookshop

Most bookshops have addresses that never change. Most have foundations of several feet, cementing the premises firmly into the ground.

There'll probably be a number on the door, so that the postie knows where to deliver the mail. That's all well and good, but it's also a bit, well, predictable.

Not so for Word on the Water. This bookshop is of no fixed address, but it likes it that way. You might find it moored in Camden Lock one day and Hackney Wick the next.

Word on the Water floats. Why, this beautiful book-barge even bobs up and down in inclement weather.

Word on the Water sells used books and welcomes everyone, whether you're a bookworm, an occasional printed-word dabbler or someone who wouldn't know what to do with a book if it was handed to them on a plate (do not eat).

The owners have also been known to put on some musical performances too, so if you can't find the book you want, you might hear a tune you like.

This wonderfully unique floating bookshop is fairly new to the canals and waterways of London, so if you fancy checking it out and discovering what it feels like to shop on water, check its Twitter feed to find out where it'll be dropping anchor next.

Oh wow, such an interesting store. I love heading into bookstores, but this seems like one that is not to be missed. Hopefully it is a success so that is stays around. Would be sad to see a unique thing like this fade away. Would love to check this out sometime.
