Held at Woodford over the weekend of 11 – 14 June,
The Dreaming Festival, is a 3 day and 4 night celebration of Indigenous art, culture and lifestyle. Featuring indigenous performers from Australia and around the world, The Dreaming Festival will open with a traditional ceremony to acknowledge and respect the Jinibara people, the traditional custodians of the Woodford region.
Plenty of activities will be taking place over the weekend including dance, theatre and music performances, story telling and workshops. The Jarjum Kids Festival offers education and entertainment for children with story telling sessions, traditional games and a circus skills workshop.
Visitors to the festival can be entertained by dance performances including the Doomadgee Dance Group and Laydeez Biz Hip Hop. If the dancing inspires you to get up and move, a variety of dance workshops will be held over the festival including hoop dance, break dancing, and African dance.
If dancing in public's not for you then move your feet along to the beat at the music performances including the Sunshine Reggae Band, Chocolate Strings and well known Australian Indigenous musician Archie Roach.
Not into music and dance? Try the live theatre performances on offer during the festival including Bindjareb Pinjarra which takes a satirical view of the 1834 massacre of Nyoongar people in Pinjarra, Western Australian and Chasing the Lollyman, a journey through comedian Mark Sheppard's life.
Other events and workshops taking place during the Dreaming Festival include performances by the Inala Clowning and Skills Troupe, guided bushtucker walks, African drumming workshops, coconut weaving workshop, a poetry slam and the opportunity to add to the mural art collaboration which will celebrate Mother Earth.
