Situated amongst fields and fields of sugarcane near Pennington, about an hour and a half south of Durban, is a quaint little collection of shops. It is in this small, tucked away corner of the South Coast of South Africa where you can find a little place called The Cowshed . The Cowshed is a delightful pottery shop that doubles as a café.

The women who own and operate The Cowshed each have a distinct style of painting and decorating the pottery, which adorns the shop and is used in the café.

When walking into The Cowshed, an explosion of colour and variety greets you, from the doors to the wide variety of pottery and the tables. My favourite door painting is of a cow with a cat looking pleadingly up to it for milk as she sits beside a milk tin.

Each handmade and hand painted item is as unique as the different designs chosen by each of the artists, which makes for unique and individual gifts for family and friends. The vibrant African designs and images, along with the bright colours, instantly draw your attention in many directions.

Though it is tucked away in a little corner amongst the cane fields, The Cowshed is a delightful place to visit and one that I would go back to, if I had the chance.
