When I first visited Chokolait Cafe, I was doubting myself. After all, it really is quite secluded. To reach this compact cafe you'll have to walk into Melbourne's Royal Arcade Shopping Centre (which I've never visited in my two years here), walk straight ahead and go down a flight of stairs. It is a simple, humble cafe surrounded with several dodgy stores, if I may say.
I felt like going a couple of steps back, thinking to myself, should I go for the oh-so-famous Koko Black instead? It's just around the corner and I did walk past it, however, my cousin from Sydney really wanted to try it so in I went. We ordered several glasses of iced dark chocolate, and a plate of chocolate strawberry pavlova.
The iced chocolate was the first to arrive. I had a sip of it, and whatever doubts I was having disappeared. It was, without a doubt, the best iced chocolate I've ever tasted my whole life. It has a strong chocolate flavour, which I love, a really nice texture, and all in all perfect. Then the pavlova arrived. I have never tried pavlova my whole life, and I'll have to thank gut instinct for choosing that dessert because it is basically heaven melting in my mouth. It has this marshmallow texture, but softer, this fresh cream and strawberries flavour, and a chocolatey taste which is basically heavenly.
After that day, I've recommended Chokolait to whoever is visiting Melbourne as the perfect chocolate cafe. And a word of tip though, is to always opt for their iced chocolate and pavlova if you've never been there. Together they make the most delightful combination.
