Snugly positioned on the Gold Coast highway amid fashion boutiques, restaurants and record stores,
The Cave at Nobby Beach is everything you want from a bohemian haunt to wistfully let the day (or night) blow by. Formerly known as The Cavern, The Cave has become somewhat of a social institution for Gold Coast residents in it's short four year lifetime, while it's central geographical position on the sunshine strip encourages visitors from the northern and southern tips of the Coast.
The Cave is Fitzroy urban, splashed with some London boho flair, all wrapped up in the attitude of Greenwich Village, New York City. Perhaps that is too much hyperbole. But, held comparatively against other GC establishments, it sure feels like different and more exotic breed of venue; one of the few place around the city that has its own identity, with a warmth and welcoming nature that so many cold and formulated Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise haunts fail to create.
Open from 7am until as late as midnight, seven days a week,
The Cave is a cafe, restaurant, live music venue and dimly lit drinking haunt all rolled into one. Monday nights, get along to check out the best in fresh, original music spanning a myriad of genres and styles, while Tuesday or Wednesday evenings, hop on in for some hotly contested Punk Rock Bingo (Tue) Every second Thursday is an exciting and unique spectacle with live art created in house to add a real interactive ambiance to The Cave while Friday and Saturday nights have live music every week from 8pm.
However, the local's favourite day at The Cave would have to be Sunday, their infamous all-day sessions forever winning with a nice blend of spontaneous soul and afternoon grooves. Get in early for one of the Coast's most talent soaked open mic events from 9am before the place jams out the weekend with Street Beats Sunday Sessions kicking off from 3pm.
In between all this action, The Cave still manages to equalise it's existence with plenty of quieter moments to chill and unwind. With computers and wi-fi available, there is always room to get some work done or catch up online with friends, while a range of board games, books, and magazines caters to any size of groups. The coffees forever seem to have the right balance of flavours while their tea range and presentation is both traditional in taste and progressive in presentation, offering visitors something delicious and unique. If you want something stiffer as well, The Cave has a fully stocked bar with a host of local and imported beers, a small but flavoursome selection of wines and a host of spirits to incite any party.
Meanwhile the food selection is full of tasty treats; from varied spins on your familiar breakfast favourites, to fusion salads, healthy wraps, and a wide and expansive cake selection - the Portuguese tarts completely consuming. Tapas style meals are also incredibly popular; dakka encrusted chicken, gourmet pizzas, spicy meatballs and garlic prawns only a small part of the lunch and evening menu on offer.
And just when you thought things couldn't get any better - the staff seem to bristle with positive vibes, smiles being shot every which way with no request too much to ask.
The Cave, quite simply put, is one of the most enjoyable digs on The Gold Coast for any time of day. If you are looking for an city influenced hit of beachside charm, make sure you drop in to kick back and let the hours drift by.
