The Butterfly Club is the sort of place that makes you love Melbourne. On Bank St, tucked in between Clarendon St. and the beautiful South Melbourne Town Hall, this chaotically decorated little gem has something for everyone.
Housed in a tiny Victorian building that was once a shop and a residence, the Butterfly Club will immediately impress with its quirky and whimsical décor. If you've been wondering where those things from your nan's went - You know, that funny old chair or picture that was cool in a kitsch sort of way - there's a good chance it, or something just like it, has made its way to The Butterfly Club. There are two bars serving impressive cocktails, standard drinks and a limited selection of bar snacks. There are lots of little rooms with ample seating that make The Butterfly Club a great place for a pre or post dinner cocktail if you are having
dinner on Clarendon St.
Every Tuesday and Wednesday night the Butterfly Club hosts the
Glee Club in its upstairs, front room. The Glee Club is a choir with an emphasis on singing, rather than the technique of singing. Even if you don't join in, it is great fun to hear people belting out popular tunes from the front beer garden below on a warm night.
The Butterfly Club also has a gorgeous, intimate
cabaret theatre that discerningly selects new artists to perform. Up and coming Melbourne comedian
Anne Edmonds was already booked for her first stand up show at The Butterfly Club when she won the 2010 Victoria Raw Comedy award. Tickets for shows are generally around $20. A show and a few drinks at The Butterfly Club is a highly recommended night out in Melbourne.
