After showing to sold out audiences in Italy, Japan, Hungary, Slovenia and New Zealand,
The Burlesque Hour returns to Australia, where it will be playing at the
Brisbane Powerhouse (
119 Lamington Street, New Farm) in time for Christmas.
While burlesque has become rather popular over the last decade,
The Burlesque Hour is not the frothy, Paris-Hilton-in-a-martini-glass striptease with which uninitiated audiences may be familiar. The show is an ironic, satirical and unflinching performance that recalls the raunchier, more erotic past of burlesque entertainment.
The Burlesque Hour has enjoyed 27 seasons since its opening night in 2005 and has won 10 Australian theatre awards. Australian cabaret masters Moira Finucane and Jackie Smith are joined by Japanese artiste Azaria Universe and maverick image-breaker Maude Davey.
For something a little different this holiday season, skip the Christmas lights display and enjoy a different kind of red light. The show is not recommended for those under the age of eighteen, as it contains nudity and coarse language.
