There are lots of nice local pubs, but there are most likely nice local pubs that are local to your house, so why should you travel to Kew to
The Botanist instead? The answer is in the question, 'cause The Botanist isn't just in Kew, it's on Kew Green, which, if it's a Sunday afternoon for example, is a really nice place to be.
It's a Sunday sort of pub really. The gastronomic highlight of their
menu is probably the Sunday Roast, though they also do typically comforting pub grub fare: sausages and mash, rib of beef, fish and chips etc., with a few lighter curve balls and some pasta thrown in to accommodate people who don't fancy something that heavy. And on Sunday they also do live jazz.
It's also the sort of place you could bring your Mum to – the tables are all nicely spread out and there's not a sticky patch on the floor or dried beer mat on the bar to be seen. Your Mum may also appreciate the slightly flamboyant colour scheme and the open fireplace.
If you are bringing your Mum for Sunday lunch you might want to book ahead, and if you're just popping down for a drink you might want to avoid peak dining times – it can get quite busy and there's not always space to just have a quiet drink and let your thoughts roll over the green.
