Let's face it; there is nothing better than fresh bread straight out of the oven. Better still, cutting a nice thick slice of bread, spreading butter and eating as the butter melts into the bread. Yum.
Sometimes there is bread left over. And, of course, bread just does not taste the same the next day. So what can you do with the leftover bread?
CROUTONS
Cut the Bread into cubes and fry in oil until crisp. Croutons make great additions to soups and salads.
CRUMBS:
You would need a Food Processor for this one, although I have grated bread before. Add leftover bread into the food processor and dice until fairly fine crumbs are created. You can use the crumbs for crumbed mushroom, crumbed schnitzels and other dishes of this nature. It would be best to store in a snap-lock bag in the freezer.
CRUMBLE:
Tear up the bread and toss with melted butter, sugar and ground cinnamon. Add a sprinkle of canned or fresh fruit and bake until the top is golden.
TOASTIES
If there is enough bread leftover, you can make some spectacular toasties. Just slice, add cheese or other fillings, and toast under grill. The perfect light lunch option.
Of course there are probably a lot more ways to use leftover bread, and would love your input. What do you do with your leftover bread?
