We all like watching movies, but sometimes the difference between a good movie and a great movie isn't always the movie itself. Sometimes it is where you watch it. Who wants to be shuffling in an uncomfortable seat for two hours, unable to see over the afro of the person in front, or hear the squelching underneath their shoes when they realise they've stood in something sticky?

Most cinemas aren't like that now, and have high standards; but there will always be those that stand out from the crowd, and offer something special. Which cinemas do you think give the best cinematic experience?

The two main chain companies I know of are The Odeon and Vue . I have never been to a Vue cinema before, so I would be interested to hear what other people think of them.

I like Odeon cinemas because they offer a variety of viewing options. They have an IMAX, and allow you to see films in both 3D and 2D. The seats rise each level, so even if a tall person sits in front of you, you can see. The seats are also comfortable, and you no longer have to book a particular seat. You can choose where you sit, meaning that you don't have to search in the dark for a row and number, nor do you have the risk of finding someone in 'your' seat. If willing to pay that bit extra, you can also get VIP seats with extra leg room.

Although I haven't been there, the Odeon at Whiteleys, London, has a screen room called The Lounge. For over 18s only, The Lounge delivers restaurant style food right to your seat, and a luxury bar area. If you need a refill, simply press a silent button, and a waiter will come with a top up.

The chain in Liverpool and the Metrocentre also has a room called D-Sense, in which the chairs synchronised to the film and mimics movements and vibrations on screen. It is like being on one of those 4D theme park rides.

Other selected Odeon cinemas have a Gallery screening with extra leg room, extra wide seats, and unlimited snacks for a VIP experience.

If it is an old film you want to watch, then the BFI Southbank have numerous seasons dedicated to classic films and directors. Then again, you may be like me, and enjoy the convenience of your own home, watching a DVD with friends, or on your own, snuggled up in bed. Perhaps you like your cinema experience to be a bit more out of the box, in which case, there are various pop-up cinema companies that find all sorts of venues, from parks to rooftops.

Where is your favourite place to see a movie?
