Are you aware that the Easter School Holidays are nearly upon us? Difficult to contemplate, isn't it?
Keep breathing folks: I have done all the leg work in finding
the holiday experience for all the family.
Some time ago, I wrote of my visit to a lovely little Nursery in Loganholme that specialises in Australian Natives - Nielsen's Native Nursery. You might like to revisit
here .
Included in this retail space is another arm of the business - Nielsen's Marine Mates - which is a popular outlet for aquarists and people who keep fish as pets. Although certain family members have had pet gold fish and Oxolotls ( Mexican Walking Fish) sharing their bedroom over the years I've never been a huge fan of goldfish bowls, probably as it always seemed to fall to me to clean them! Regardless, it is worth viewing the setups available from Nielsen's which are alive with colour and movement, with the vast number of water creatures, corals, water weed, and other tank paraphernalia.
Throughout the month of April
The Australian Shark and Ray Nursery] will be set up in the grounds of Neilsen's providing a rather unique opportunity for families. This mobile Shark and Ray exhibition actively encourages interaction where children can pat and play with these marvellous creatures.
Don't panic! The ten (10) species of sharks and rays are all babies, though this does not necessarily mean that they are tiny creatures.
Is this a great introduction to these marvellous creatures of the sea? Is this something the kiddies would remember for a lifetime? And how about the opportunity of sitting in knee-deep water or on the side of the enclosure to have an eye level view?
Tickets are only available via www.ozsharkandray.com.au and cover a short, educational talk and then the pat an play experience, totalling around an hour in length all up.There are child tickets, adult tickets, and reduced prices for families.
The water temperature will be around a comfortable 22.1 degrees so Autumn is a great time for this activity.
Once the children have had their fix I think it only fair and reasonable that Mum and Dad get to wander around the beautiful native gardens, with a coffee at The Lorikeet Cafe to complement a wonderful outing.
