Tony Gould Gallery, QPAC , is filled with rare treasures and memorabilia from The Lion King , which will have fans of the film intrigued and fascinated. All items in this free exhibition are on loan from Disney Theatre Productions and on display for the Australian public for the first time ever.



The main highlight of the exhibition for me, were the two documentaries about turning The Lion King film into The Lion King stage show. In the first documentary, Pride of The Lion King (38 minutes), we meet the animators and some of the famous voices behind the characters. The director discusses the symbolism in the story and the making of the award winning soundtrack. In the second documentary, Behind The Scenes (30 minutes), we follow narrator, John Bowles, on a journey into the making of the award winning costumes and the computerised set for the stage show. The documentaries are well worth watching, especially if you are a theatre lover.



After the documentary, I had a closer look at the costumes and noticed the finer details I had missed, such as the circular shape of Mufasa's head piece, and the hand sewn bead work on the lionesses costumes. There are plenty of colour photos around the gallery from The Lion King's Australian cast rehearsals and back stage make up techniques, as well as original set designs.



will run for the duration of The Lion King 's five month season (until 25/01/15) at The Lyric Theatre, QPAC and I highly recommend visiting the exhibition before seeing the stage show to really appreciate the effort involved in bringing the much loved film to life right here in Brisbane.
