Event: 03/10/2010
Wishing for a Thai holiday but don't have the money or time right now? Then get your Thai fix at the Thai Culture and Food Festival held on Sunday 3 October at South Bank Parklands.

Starting off at 10am with a traditional Buddhist blessing, the day will feature dancing, martial arts, cooking demonstrations, live music and the inaugural Miss Thai Festival beauty contest. A traditional Thai long drum parade will commence the official opening of the festival at 11.20; the opening will be followed by Sukothai dance performance, which kicks off the dance and music performances of the festival. A wide variety of traditional dances from different regions in Thailand will be showcased throughout the day including a performance by the Siam Classic Dance Studio and a Siamese Salsa Dance.

If dancing's a bit too girly for you, a Muay Thai kickboxing demonstration takes place at 2:00pm. If watching the dancing and kickboxing makes your muscles sore, relax with a Thai massage or slow down the day and de-stress in the Thai temple area.

From 1pm, cooking demonstrations will occur every half hour but if your preference is to eat Thai food rather than cook it, 15 food and dessert stalls will be on hand to offer a tempting range of delicacies which can be washed down with refreshing amber liquid in the Singha Beer Garden.

As well as food stalls, a variety of arts and handicrafts stalls will be at the festival. Also if the day makes you hanker after that Thai trip even more you can receive information on planning on your next Thai getaway.

At 4pm the winner of the Miss Thai Festival beauty contest will be announced and the day will end with the Thai Festival Annual Tiffany Talent Contest and Show.

The Thai Culture and Food Festival will be held between 10am and 8pm on Sunday 3 October at South Bank Parklands, Brisbane. For transport options, the nearest train station to the South Bank Parklands is South Brisbane, buses and ferries stop at South Bank or the QPAC, State Library or South Bank car parks are available to drivers.
