Tan Nhu Y is a Vietnamese-Chinese restaurant located at 264 Grand Junction Road, with plenty of parking lots at the rear. It is a very affordable place to have a classic Chinese 'home cooked' dinner of 3 dishes plus 1 soup. For the price of $39.60, you get to pick three dishes from a list of dishes, soup of the day and a free basket of prawn crackers for entree. Soup of the day is usually preserved vegetable and carrots boiled with pork bones.

So far, we have tried their Honey Chicken, Eggplant and Chicken in Szechuan Sauce Hot Pot, Salt and Pepper Squid, Bean Sprouts and Chives with Salted Fish and Salt and Pepper Fish.

One of my favourites is the Honey Chicken, which consists of deep fried pieces of chicken in a honey sauce. The chicken pieces were perfectly cooked and the honey sauce complemented the chicken nicely without being too sweet.

The Salt and Pepper Fish had deep fried pieces of fish that were cooked just right and the salt and pepper seasoning gave it a bit of punch without being too overpowering. If you prefer, you can order a variation of the dish with deep fried pieces of squid replacing the fish.

The Eggplant and Chicken in Szechuan Sauce Hot Pot consists of tender pieces of chicken and eggplant cooked in a slightly sweet Szechuan sauce. The chunks of eggplants were quite large and cooked just right with the sauce complementing the chicken and eggplant perfectly.
