You have arrived in Bali, you have your international licence in hand and you are ready to rent a scooter or a car. Where to go now? There are so many people who will approach you and it is hard to know which ones are legitimate and which ones you will be safe renting. I have a fabulous one who you will be safe with.

*A slight disclaimer that if you intend to rent a motorbike in Bali, you must hold a current motorbike licence from either the country you live in the country you are visiting. Should you rent a motorbike when you only hold a car licence, you may find that your insurance will not cover you. It is certainly possible to hire a vehicle without the correct paperwork and entirely up to you. Just make sure you weigh up your pros and cons before you make this decision.

However let's say you do have a current motorcycle licence and wish to, there is a wonderful place in Jalan Sriwedari (Street) in Ubud.

It is just off the main street (Jalan Raya Ubud) that runs through Ubud. Slightly to the East of the art market, turn left into Jalan Sri Wedari. Then heading North you will go past a centre where they hold Kecak (fire) dances every Wednesday evening (also worth seeing).

Go past this and venture a little further north and you will see a sign that says Taman Tourist Services. It is primarily run by Yannick and his lovely sister Made (who has a sewing business next door where you can get the most beautiful clothing made).

Every time I am in Bali, I always rent my motor scooters from here and they have been nothing but helpful. On the rare occasion that there is something goes wrong with your bike, Yannick is right there as prompt as possible to get it fixed and sorted out for you. He can deliver the motorbike to most hotels in the area and the prices are extremely reasonable.

I won't discuss the actual prices here with you, because that is up to the two of you to negotiate (and a bit of fun to do too) but the price is probably well less than $10 per day if you rent for a while (in 2015, since then you can negotiate) and the longer you rent the bikes for, the cheaper it becomes.

If you do not want to rent a motorbike yourself and you just want to take a tour, whether around Bali itself or further afield to Java or perhaps to the Gili islands, Yannick can organise all of these for you at very good prices.

If you are looking for a peaceful and low-cost place to rest your head, he has also converted the back of his family home into 3 self-contained hotel rooms, complete with a beautiful garden, breakfast included and a lovely swimming pool. It is a calm and peaceful oasis in the middle of a crazy Bali. Prices can begin from as low as $35 for a double room per night, although this is greatly subject to change depending on the seasons. (look at my other articles for more information on this and other places and events in Bali).

Tell him Lesley sent you and I am certain they will look after you very well. You will find Yannick at Taman Tourist Services - Jalan Sri Wedari, Ubud, Bali
