Event:
Turn a tee into a unique eco-friendly accessory
For those that missed Colour Box Studio's resourcefully cool Upcycled Macrame Necklace Workshop last year, don't fret! Eco-minded textile creative Kirri-Mae Sampson of Kirri-MaDe will be hosting another T-Shirt to Treasure Workshop this April, this time held on a Thursday evening, at Artisan Textiles Australia in the CBD.

A jersey t-shirt is possibly one of the easiest types of clothing to upcycle, and commonly re-purposed into a grocery bag or an infinity scarf.

Kirri-Mae takes t-shirt upcycling one step further, by using macrame knotting techniques to create a unique eye-catching necklace to add interest to any outfit, with the added bonus of it being an eco-friendly accessory made from textiles already in circulation.

In this workshop, you will learn how to deconstruct a t-shirt and experiment using macrame knotting to walk away with a finished DIY fashion piece, and newly acquired craft skills.

A t-shirt will be provided for each participant to play with, however, if you have a particular colour in mind, you are welcome to BYO tee. Before you rush out and buy a new t-shirt for this class, considering going through your (or your partners, brothers, daughters, cousins, etc) existing t-shirt stash, or raid your nearest op shop's t-shirt collection. With over 500,000 tonnes of textile waste buried in Australian landfill each year, this is a good a time as any to breathe new life into an old t-shirt.

The T-Shirt to Treasure Upcycled Macrame Necklace Workshop runs for two hours, and costs $65. Places are of course limited, with the last two workshops selling out in a matter of weeks. To secure your spot, scroll down, book and pay via Colour Box Studio here.

You can also sign up to receive Colour Box Studio's newsletter for the latest workshop updates here and join the Facebook Workshop Group here. You can also find Kirri-MaDe on Facebook here.
