A trip to the museum is a great way to spend the day, whether you're looking for an educational activity for the kids or something fun and informative for all. Sydney has plenty of museums where you can learn about just about anything. So we've decided we need to track down Sydney's best museum. We've got a few ideas on what Sydney has to offer, now we need you to help with the rest.

The Australian Museum is obviously the first place to start. With its great natural history collection this is the perfect place to explore the world around you. One of the most exciting part of the museum is checking out the dinosaurs on display, these giants are fun for both young and old. There is also a special Kidspace perfect for under 5s to explore. The kids will have loads of interactive activities that help make the most of their trip to the museum. With such a comprehensive collection it is hard to beat the Australian Museum.

Another Sydney museum that has plenty of interactive displays is the Powerhouse Museum. The Powerhouse Museum allows you the opportunity to look into the future, and to discover the achievements of the past. They host special activities, and have fun and educational activities aimed at the kids. There is always something new and exciting to explore at the Powerhouse Museum.

If you've got your head in the stars then you might enjoy a trip to the Sydney Observatory. As well as being able to check out the night sky, there are exhibitions on show. You can learn about the history of astronomy, and find out all the advancements that have been made. Perhaps you'd rather stick to the seas, and it's the Australian National Maritime Museum that takes your fancy. Learn why ocean travel has been such an important part of Australia's history, and learn the story of some of the country's most famous seafarers.

There are plenty of other great museums out there, each giving a unique insight into the world around us. So let us know which museum you like the most, and help us find Sydney's best museum.

Susannah Place Museum in the Rocks! A great museum of 4 terrace houses showing how ordinary people used to live. Delicious lollies in the old corner shop too.

I'm afraid if you've ever been to the Natural History Museum in London you can never visit the Australian Museum without thinking "so what". The dinosaur exhibition is tiny - having joined the museum especially to see this my kids (and I) were hugely disappointed. We have only visited as members three times in a year purely because we felt we should use the membership, we certainly won't be rejoining. The Powerhouse on the other hand is vibrant, fun and has fantastic exhibitions. A much better deal.

Obviously the Natural History Museum is amazing, but I think every museum has its merits. And especially when it comes to dinosaurs I find them amazing regardless of the scale of the exhibition.

I am based in Adelaide, so while our museum is pretty pitiful compared to most around the world, but at least it is free. So you can enjoy it for what it is rather than compared to other experiences.

I agree that a membership to the Australian Museum could seem like a bit of a waste when you've been lucky enough to see far better exhibitions in the past. :)

I think Powerhouse definitely wins when it comes to interactivity!
