Event: 05/12/2010
Ever wanted to be on stage, dance, sing, act, see what goes on backstage, how sets are built, costumes sewn or watch a thrilling performance?

You are invited to step 'behind-the-scenes' to participate in free forums and workshops, take a tour or just check out the back stage action at the Sydney Theatre Company Open Day at the Wharf, Walsh Bay.

Walsh Bay's arts companies will throw open their doors including Accessible Arts, Australian Theatre for Young People, Bangarra Dance Theatre, Bell Shakespeare, Biennale of Sydney, Gondwana Voices and Sydney Children's Choir, Sydney Dance Company and Sydney Philharmonia Choirs.

Activities include workshops in acting, singing, performance, stage fighting, writing, designing, directing, circus skills, stage make-up, lantern making, puppetry, activities and events for children.

There is an opportunity to meet leading actors, directors and playwrights in the 'Meet the Artist' events.

You can leap and spring into action at the dance workshops, styles include jazz, ballet and hip-hop and the Bangarra Dance Theatre group will perform live.

All the artistic heads of Sydney's leading arts companies will share one platform in a forum, including Andrew Upton and Cate Blanchett (STC), Stephen Page (Bangarra), Rafael Bonachela (SDC), Fraser Corfield (atyp), Roland Peelman (The Song Company), Brett Weymark (Sydney Philharmonia Choirs), Chip Rolley (Sydney Writers' Festival), Catherine de Zegher and Gerald McMaster (Biennale), Lyn Williams (Gondwana) and John Bell (Bell Shakespeare).

According to the Open Day at The Wharf website:"Visitors to Open Day can explore backstage areas that are rarely open to the public, including scenic art, set construction, props and costume departments, archives and rehearsal rooms, as well as the many performance spaces."

If all that dancing, acting, performing and touring has left you famished there will be special menus from The Wharf Restaurant, Sydney Dance Café, Hickson Road Bistro, Simmer on the Bay, Fratelli Fresh, Ventuno, Fire Fly, Ottoman and others positioned around The Wharf.

Those wishing to join workshops and to guarantee a place on special guided tours are encouraged to register by phoning STC's Box Office on 02 9250 1777 or visiting the website, registrations will be available from Monday November 22.
