It's summertime, and if you're not fortunate enough to live by the beach, you're going to spend a lot of time thinking about pools. Here are some of the best Sydney has to offer:
Fanny Durack Pool, Petersham
My favourite pool, this gem of a place is about to be renovated so it can look like everywhere else so make sure you get down here for a dip before it goes. The pool is 33 metres long (who can go past a pool with unusual measurements) and as quiet as the grave during the daytime. If sleepy laps and cheeky hot chips with vinegar are your thing, you should head here. Adults are $2 but concessions are a very reasonable $2. Verdict: A country pool in the middle of the inner west. It's time stamped so get here while you still can.
1 Station Street, Petersham
Andrew 'Boy' Charlton Pool
It's gorgeous and it's set in arguably one of the most beautiful harbours in the world. What's not to love? A bit pricier than your average pool price at $5.50 for adults, and $4.10 for concessions but worth it for the view every time you lift your head up from a freestyle stroke. Verdict: A delight.
1C Mrs. Macquaries Road, The Domain, Sydney
North Sydney Olympic Pool
Do a tumble turn and you're swimming towards the Harbour Bridge, turn again and the smiling face of Luna Park is gazing straight at you. North Sydney Olympic Pool is beautiful, as much for the lounging by the pool as the actual swimming. Like Boy Charlton, it's pricier than a lot of pools. Verdict: Exercise and playing the tourist, rolled into one.
4 Alfred Street South , Milsons Point
Wylie's Baths
Sometimes the rough and tumble of the surf doesn't appeal, and for those occasions, Wylie's Baths are the ultimate delight. Just off Coogee Beach, Wylie's Baths are tidal pools and carved into a rock. Forgotten your togs? No one could care less, just hop in full clothed or in your knickers. All of this, totally free. Verdict: For those of us who think chlorine is the major negative of summer.
