Orienteering NSW has kicked off its summer season of urban racing with the first two events in its Sydney Summer Series. Orienteering in the summer is a navigational romp around a city suburb. Every Wednesday for 26 weeks you can weave your way around some of Sydney's most scenic parks and neighbourhoods, enjoying the thrill of the chase as you try to find as many checkpoints in 45 minutes as you can.
See the harbour differently
Anyone can have a go as you can go at the speed that suits you. You can race round like a Mad March hare and try to visit every control point and hit the top of the leader board, or take a toddler with you and wander around enjoying the views and some time poring over the map with someone who can't yet read.
Green and shady - but just where is this?
This sport has something for everyone whether you want to get your heart rate up or just appreciate Sydney areas you may not have been before. You don't even need a compass to play and there are always friendly experienced orienteers to help the newby get started. Start times are between 4.30 and 6.45pm. More information can be found on the
Sydney Summer Series Website.
