One of my medals from this event
I love the variety that comes with this annual event based in September. If you are fit and game enough, then enrol in the Blackmore's Sydney Marathon, a 42km trek (full marathon) around Sydney. The finishing location; being the
Sydney Opera House is so liberating with a recovery zone in the
Royal Botanical Gardens. Welcome to the annual
Sydney Running Festival. Spring has definitely sprung on this occasion. And it is just as liberating to be running through the
Sydney Harbour Bridge.
This is a great event, although I prefer the
City2Surf as the latter event is a lot faster, although the 9km Body and Soul Bridge Run (or walk) is just spectacular. It is so easy for people to want to take photos of their friends competing in the event along the Harbour Bridge, however for safety reasons this is not allowed.
For any major event such as this one, a structured and consistent training program needs to be adhered to. This is a tougher course than the City2Surf (despite having no heartbreak Hill) and despite running less kilometres, not sure why that is. The date for 2012 has been confirmed.
The recovery zone is fantastic as refreshments are provided as part of the entry fee, and a finisher's momento is provided. The marathon runners (full and half marathon) actually receive a medal.
