La dolce vita — the sweet life — is coming to Sydney this August with all the passion, pizza and pasta you'd expect from some of Sydney's finest Italian chefs, winemakers and importers. Get out the vespa and head for Sydney Town Hall on Sunday 30 August for the Sydney Italian Wine and Food Festival .

Below are some of the festival highlights:

Wine
The Festival Tasting Hall will be temporary home to more than 300 Italian wines as well as Australian wines made from Italian grapes.

Italian Wine Masterclasses will be hosted by renowned wine journalists Huon Hooke and Max Allen and accompanied by winemakers, sommeliers and importers. Each class lasts for one hour and you will taste ten wines and receive a tasting booklet.
Cost: $55 per person for each class or $210 for an all day entry pass (in addition to festival entry).

Sommelier Tours will introduce small groups of ten to the delights of particular regions and grape varieties.
Cost: $20 per person (in addition to festival entry).

Negroni Bar

It isn't all about wine. Introduced last year to the delight of festival goers, the Negroni Bar is back in 2015 with a range of flavourful concoctions based on Campari, Prosecco and Aperol, including the signature Negroni cocktail. The bar is open from 2pm and prices for Italy in a glass range from $8 to $14.

• Other drink highlights include the Menebrea Birra Bar featuring beer from Italy's oldest brewer, the Coffee and Espresso Martini Bar and Plumm Wine Glass Workshops .

Food
• A highlight of this year's foodie menu is the Gourmet Traveller Food Market . Here you can purchase pantry fillers and Italian recipe staples from the bounty of fresh produce, olive oil, gelato, pasta, sauces, bread, honey and coffee on offer. As an added bonus in this year's market you can watch pasta-making and cheese-making demonstrations and even see the age-old tradition of butter churning in action. Entry to the market is included with your festival entry ticket.

• Cooking demonstrations from some of Sydney's best chefs will run throughout the day, and for the first time this year, into the evening. Watch the likes of Alessandro Pavoni from Ormeggio at the Spit, Danny Russo from Russolini and Gabriele Taddeucci from Balla at the Star cook up an Italian storm in the Smeg Kitchen . See the full schedule here .

• Festival organisers realise that a large part of the enjoyment of food comes not merely from eating it but talking about it, too. Food Talks , featuring some of Sydney's top Italian celebrity chefs will enliven Sydney Town Hall's Vault with discussions about pizza, traditional and modern food and butter vs olive oil.

• Other food highlights include Meet the Chef Tours and Olive Oil Masterclasses .

Parking

Festival organisers have arranged a special deal with Secure Parking for a discounted weekend and evening rate of $10. See here for details and instructions .

Publicity for the event tells us that Italians do it better. And bigger. The only way you can find out if this is true is to head along to Sydney's August slice of all we love about Italy.
