This marathon event has lots of hills. In the beginning us runners like it, and then towards the end fatigue can easily kick in; well then again not unless you adopted a serious training regime that was challenging and consistent beforehand. Welcome to
The Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon for 2012. The event date has been set, and the 20 May 2012 is it.
A great 21km course which goes through Pyrmont and the best of Sydney's icons such as the
Sydney Harbour Bridge and the
Opera House. There are time restrictions, so once again training pre-event is critical. You need to have reached the first 7 kilometres in 60 minutes, 11 kms within 75 minutes and just prior to the 15km point within 125 minutes, otherwise you will be kindly asked to withdraw from the event.
Hyde Park makes the way for a great recovery after the event.
The 16km mark is the worst as the elevation levels increase, and a test of your endurance continues. Definitely not for the faint hearted. If you love marathons and long distance events, then this event is worthy of your consideration. Entries will be accepted from February 2012. And you need to be up for a bit of a challenge.
